A Home for Shared Stories
Cobh Little Library has a simple and beautiful aim: to bring literature into the very heart of the community. It stands as a small but powerful reminder that stories belong to everyone, and that reading can thrive anywhere when people care enough to share.
The Little Library can be found just outside the Port Operations and Information Station and a short walk before the Titanic Memorial Gardens at The Mall, Carrignafoy, Cobh, Co. Cork. (Eircode: P24 H960)
It is more than a collection of books. It is a shared space, a small wooden library where anyone can come to take a book, leave a book, or simply stop to browse. It thrives on the generosity of neighbours, friends, and visitors who believe that reading should be open, free, and part of everyday life.
Cobh Little Library is minded and maintained by the community itself. Volunteers keep it tidy, stock it with donated books, and make sure it remains a welcoming corner for everyone who passes. Its shelves are filled not just with stories, but with the kindness and care of the people who look after it.

The idea behind the project is simple: when a community shares its books, it shares its imagination, knowledge, and connection. Over the years, the Little Library has become a meeting point, a talking point, and a symbol of the creative spirit that runs through Cobh.
We are pleased to share that Great Island Creative Arts will now host Cobh Little Library as its new home online, providing a space for updates, photographs, and information about events and volunteering.
Cobh Little Library remains, as it always has been, an independent community-led project. It belongs to everyone who stops to swap a story, who places a book on its shelf, or who pauses to read by the sea.
If you are passing by the Port of Cork building, take a moment to visit. Bring a book. Borrow one. Add a note. Be part of a small act of generosity that keeps Cobh’s love of reading alive.
